Assistant Chief Engineer

 Description:         Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will be working in an environment that is both challenging and rewarding. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department, and maintaining solid working relationships with all other departments, you will foster an environment of open and effective communication and "team" accomplishment. The ideal candidate will be results driven, able to work effectively under pressure with a high level of initiative that sets an example for standards of team and individual performance, health & safety and environmental stewardship.

Expectations:

  • A general understanding of, and able to assist in managing Operational & Capital budget plans and administration.
  • A good understanding of Building, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Safety codes.
  • Proven leadership skills that focus on Team and can contribute to the attainment of the Engineering Dept. and Hotel goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Must participate in operational meetings and Hotel committee work.
  • Participation in the Hotels' Emergency Response Team and able to demonstrate both risk management and leadership skills in all H&S related matters.
  • Able to work flexible hours according to business levels and/or emergencies.
  • Performance management, training and development of colleagues in an environment of integrity and respect.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain high level of productivity.
  • Proactive nature and keen eye for detail while coordinating preventive maintenance in all guest rooms, public spaces, meeting spaces, F&B outlets and kitchens, as well as our property's residential complex.
  • Focus on personal career development  with possible move to Chief Engineer or Director of Engineering position within the company in 2 to 3 year period.

Qualifications:

  • Must have 2 to 3 years in a leadership / supervisory position.
  •  Preferred Trade certification with strong electrical and mechanical background
  • Valid Building Operator A or B, HVAC Certificate, or 5th Class Power Engineer certification required.
  • Work experience or completed education in Engineering, Project Management, etc.
  • Computer literate and ability to work with MS Word and Excel in particular
  • Knowledge of various building management systems software an asset.
  • Must be able to read and understand blue prints and technical manuals.
